DOS Compression & Conversion Software
- PKZIP
- PKWare's PKZip and PKUnzip utility. Creates, extracts and manipulates ZIP
archived files (files ending with a .zip extension). Can create
self-extracting archives. Shareware. You must have this program to use
some of the other files in the PDA.
- UU utils
- A set of utilities for DOS to uuencode and uudecode files
and multiple file sets. Also supports the newer XX encoding scheme.
- LHA
- Extracts and creates LHA archives.
- GZIP for DOS (also GZip v1.2.4)
- Extracts files compressed with UNIX GZIP. Uses a basic DOS command
line interface with switches. Public domain.
- ARJ
- Creates and extracts ARJ archives. Supports multiple volume
spanning, different compression ratios, and self-extracting archives.
Shareware.
- ARCE
- Extracts .ARC archives. Does not create them. Presumably freeware.
- MPack for DOS
- Decodes MIME and Base64-encoded pictures downloaded from CCN and the
Internet. Use PKUnZip to unpack.
- UnStuffIt (for DOS)
- Now there is an unstuffing program for DOS capable of unstuffing Mac
text files (.sit) for use on a PC. Note: only text files can be used on a PC and
converted; operating system-prevalent programs designed only for Mac will
NOT run on a PC despite unstuffing it. Use ARCE to unpack.
- UNTAR (for DOS)
- Simple UnTar program for DOS.
