Welcome to Our Web Page

When this web page began more than twenty years ago, it described most of the activities of our whole family. Now that most of our children have flown the coop, it is mostly about what Ann and I (Dave) have been up to. I update it most weekends. We save all the messages over the past year in an Archive along with links to what we were doing ten and twenty years ago.

You can click on the pictures above to get a bit more information about each of us.

Dave, Julia and Ann on the front lawn at Acadia

Dave, Julia and Ann on the front lawn at Acadia

As I advertised last time, we spent last Tuesday and Wednesday driving home from Renfrew. Julia came with us, occupying the passenger seat while Ann and I switched between the driver seat and the back seat. We stopped for the night at the Comfort Inn in Rivière du Loup.

On Friday, Acadia had a convocation ceremony for 2020 and 2021 graduates who missed their's due to COVID. We drove up with Julia, dropped her off to pick up a gown and mortarboard, then went to Charts Café for coffee. We met up again on the lawn in front of University Hall where photos were taken of Julia and her friends Jon and Zoe. The ceremony started at noon and lasted about an hour after which we went to the Axe Pub for sandwiches. We then toured around Wolfville to some of the places that were important to Julia before driving home again.

On Saturday, Julia got a ride to Windsor where a bunch of her friends gathered for a party to the wee hours. Ann and I got up at 2:30 am so we could pick her up at 3:30 then drive to the airport so she could catch a 6 am flight back to Ottawa. We both went back to bed when we got home but Ann still had to arise at a reasonable time to get to church where she was again contributing to Souper Sunday, a fundraiser for the Mi'kmawey Debert Cultural Centre.

That afternoon I went to see French finger-picking guitarist Pierre Bensusan at The Carleton with Dave Chapman. I last saw him at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre (aka The Cultch) in 1978 or 1979 when I was a grad student at UBC. He played at the Halifax Jazz Festival about twenty years ago — Chapman drove him around town in his capacity as volunteer driver for the festival — but I didn't see him then. We had a table right in front of the stage so had a great view of his technical virtuosity. A great show.

Today we went for a ride after a 10 day hiatus. We drove out to Lawrencetown Beach then biked back along the trail to meet the Railers at Shearwater. After biking back to Lawrencetown Beach, Ann drove home so she could catch the 1:30 pm ferry to Halifax (more below). I stayed at the beach for a while with the Railers then biked out to Fisherman's Reserve to check out some details of a possible Ramblers ride next summer.

Meanwhile Ann met the other members of the church Reconciliation Awareness and Action Group in Halifax so that they could do the Mi'kmaw Soundwalk, a self-guided tour of nine historical sites of significance to the Mi'kmaw in downtown Halifax.
